Locker "From This To That" Week: Day 3

Welcome to "From This To That" Locker Week: Day 3! Today I'm going to show you how to turn a Dollar Tree weekly calendar into another magnetic work of art.

     Supplies I used:

  • Calendar
  • Card stock (one 5" x 12" piece)                                                                                                                                                               I glued the card stock onto the calendar. Be careful not to pick a pattern that clashes with the rest of your locker decorations.

Simple elegance that's my motto. Perfectly shown here, enjoyed our project today? Check back tomorrow for more.

Locker "From This To That" Week: Day 2

Welcome to "From This To That" Locker Week: Day Two! Today I'm going to show how to alter a regular locker mirror into a pretty magnetic frame. I did this because my mirror was cheap and didn't work very well. I will also show you how to create the same products out of cardboard and magnets.

     Supplies I used:

  • Locker mirror (standard is 6 1/2 x 8)
  • Card stock (two 8" x 1" pieces, two 6 1/2 x 1" pieces, one 5 3/4 x 4 1/2" piece.)

I took the two 8" x 1" pieces and two 6 1/2 x 1" pieces then glued the card stock to the mirror edges. Then take the 5 3/4 x 4 1/2" piece and inserted where the mirror usually is. And Presto! You changed a cheap, store bought mirror into a beautiful handmade frame. Here is mine:

My friend +Sarah Ray created one simply by using cardboard. Instead of a mirror the cardboard was her base. She used all the same sized pieces but glued them onto cardboard instead of the mirror. This is a simple and inexpensive way to create a locker frame. The biggest difference between hers and mine is that she needed to add magnets to the back of her project. Here is hers, unfortunately it turned out sideways:

Locker "From This To That" Week: Day One

Welcome to "From This To That" Locker Week: Day One!
Today I am going to show examples of locker shelves! Like any "From This To That" I will show what the beginning product looked like, and what the finisheing product is. Don't settle for a boring black shelf, pick your favorite paper and ribbon and decorate! Here is a picture of what I started with:

Here is what you will need:
  • A locker Shelf ( mine is 11" x 10", but they vary)
  • Your favorite paper ( I choose a sheet of 12" x 12" and cut it down)
  • Ribbon ( Something wide see mine for example)
  • Cardboard ( Don't worry about what it looks like, it will all be covered.)

I first took a ruler and found that my shelf was 10" x 11". I then cut my cardboard and cut it a little shorter then I wanted it to turn out, ( in my case 10" x 11".) I covered the shelf so that little things cant slip through, in the original picture you can see all the holes. I cut my paper exactly the size I wanted it, not worrying about cardboard showing, since I already knew it was shorter the the paper. I then cut another sheet of paper, (but you could use the same 12" x 12" sheet, and cut 1" x 11". I glued it all together using wide ribbon to cover the glue. I also used the ribbon so that my paper could create a flap over the side of my locker shelf! Here is what mine looks like:

And this is how my friend +Sarah Ray's shelf turned out:

Her's is very close to mine, other then the size difference, the only change is that instead of ribbon, she scored her paper to create her flap. It is simpler, yet I feel it pops less. It lacks the dimension that the ribbon creates. Other the that I love the colors and the pattern.

Thanks for stopping by! -Cait and +Sarah Ray

Ares Seat of Contrive Battle Strategy

I was assigned a project with the topic of Greek Mythology. I choose the Greek God Ares. The requirements were:

  • Hand draw (or create) a chair for your God/Goddess
  • Create a catchy title that describes a little bit about your God
  • Add three symbols of your Gods power
  • Add two qualities that show your Gods power over mortals
  • Complete in three days!

This last bullet point scared me. Three days to complete a huge project like this? I set to work immediately. The finishing project looked like this:

My "catchy title" was, Ares Seat of Contrive Battle Strategy. My three symbols were a sword (hanging off the seat,) a helmet (second picture,) and a chariot (last picture.) My two qualities were a jet pack booster (to help Ares escape anger and fear,) and his healing ointment ( its in the armrest, best seen in last picture.)

I hope this project may help you sometime, check back soon for more school projects and more! -Cait
